On March 30, 1981, 69 days into my presidency, John Hickley Jr. attempted to shoot me. I was leaving a speaking engagement at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. Around 2:30 pm (EST) I walked out of the hotel and was waiting for my car when he came with a revolver and shot six times in three seconds. I had a punctured lungs and three others were wounded. Hickley was not found guilty because he suffered from erotomania. My plans for the next month were canceled as I healed.

I'm sorry to hear that someone attempted such a thing. How were you affected by the time you neededbti heal? I can only imagine how much work it was to reorganize everything, and get things in order after you were fully recovered. I am curious to know what the condition that the shooter had. What did it do to him to make it ok for him to attempt to kill you? Anyways, I do hope that things went well for you after you were better and healthy again, and wish you the best.

Wow, I know exactly how you feel. In 1833 I was that close to dying also.The same thing happened to me when some one came out of the crowd and tried to shoot me. Luckily both of his dueling pistols misfired. I wish the same thing had happened to you.
